Oscar Piastri announced as reserve driver for Alpine for 2022

Oscar Piastri announced as reserve driver for Alpine for 2022

Alpine F1 Team just announced that their academy driver Oscar Piastri as reserve driver for 2022.

This has been expected since Alpine has no empty seats for next year and the only option for them is to make him their reserve driver or loan him to other teams.

Oscar Piastri is 22 year old Australian Driver currently racing in FIA Formula 2 and is currently leading the championship by 36 points as a rookie. He won three races, seven podiums and secured three pole positions.

Oscar joined Alpine Academy after winning Formula Renault Eurocup in 2019.

With only 2 rounds to go, Oscar has very bright chances at winning the title and if he does win, he’ll join Charles Leclerc and George Russell in winning FIA F3 and FIA F2 back to back as rookies.

But it’s a shame that talent like this couldn’t get a seat in Formula 1. Charles Leclerc and George Russell secured F1 seats after winning F2 as rookies.

Oscar Piastri responded to this announcement saying, “I’m super excited to be joining Alpine F1 Team as Reserve Driver. I’m looking forward to being much more involved with the team and contributing to its intended success next season.”
